Trails of Los
Alcornocales Natural Park
Los Alcornocales
Natural Park is a protected area that is located north to south between Cadiz
and Malaga provinces. The main feature is its lush, created by moisture carried
by the wind from the East, "el Levante". And the tree that gives the
park its name, the Cork Oak (Quercus suber, L. 1753), remains an important
economic activity for all peoples of the area, being very interesting in summer
to visit cork gangs, to view traditional way of extracting the bark of these
trees, which has been maintained for centuries almost unchanged.
For its size, there are many routes with different
landscapes and difficulties. In our routes through the Natural Park we combine
official marked trails and other lesser known routes, less travelled but very
interesting. In many of them, in addition to beautiful lanscapes, we can see
archaeological remains and cave paintings.
Route of the Fungus
Thanks to its mild
temperature most of the year and their areas with abundant relative humidity,
southern Andalusia is a paradise for lovers of
mycology. In this area you can find more than 100 different species, half of
which are wild edible fungi.
Our guide is expert on many places where the Andalusian wild fungi grow
and thanks to his years as a gatherer, will teach you which wild fungi are
edible and which are poisonous.
The routes take place
on different habitats, amongst the wettest months of October to April. Most
tours take place in protected natural areas. In them you can enjoy observing
and photographing dozens of species of wild fungi, but no specimen will be
collected, because only licensed professionals can do it.
The reserve is limited by the
abundance of rainfall and the availability of our knowledgeable guide. Please,
contact us in advance.
